St Agatha's Trust was set up some twenty years ago to provide
kick-start funding for community initiatives and services
especially ones promoted by churches and Christian
organisations.
Our Charity Commission Registration
Number is 700386
The area we cover
is the Anglican Diocese of Sheffield, which extends from
Southern Sheffield up to Goole.
The Trust meets 4 times per year
Our capital came from the sale of a mother-and-baby home that
belonged to the Diocese of Sheffield. We currently hold shares
and a deposit fund with the Central Board of Finance. These
investments created about £8,000 during 2002. It is this
annual interest from capital which we use to fund projects.
In a typical year we are able to provide small amounts of
funding for between twenty and thirty organisations. Our
compass has been broad, including all kinds of social and
community initiatives, supporting churches' work with families
and children, older people, people with special needs and
people with problems of mental health or homelessness.
Grants are normally for up to £500, as our policy has been
to help as many organisations as possible with the funds
available. Exceptionally, grants up to £1000 can be made.
Some grants have contributed to the funding of a new scheme;
others have paid for furniture and equipment or training, or
helped with the costs of parish audits.
As for many other charities, our income in 2002 reduced
because of the falling levels of our income from
investments.(£8145 compared with £11,630 in 1999)
Despite this we were unable to distribute all the funding
available last year, as we had fewer applications. We
appreciate that this may be because organisations starting
major initiatives have applied to Trust funds with larger sums
at their disposal.
